WHAT IS A GREASE BOTTOM TRAY?
A grease bottom tray, also known as a grease tray or a drip pan, typically refers to a tray or pan that is placed at the bottom of a grill to collect grease, drippings, and other liquids that may come off food during cooking. It serves several purposes:
-
Drip Management: When you cook meats or other foods that release fats or oils, these liquids can drip down from the cooking surface. The grease bottom tray is designed to catch and hold these drippings, preventing them from falling onto the heating elements or flames below, which could cause flare-ups or smoke.
-
Easy Cleanup: The tray makes it easier to clean your oven or grill after cooking. Instead of having to scrub the interior, you can simply remove and clean the grease tray, which is usually easier to handle and clean.
-
Safety: By collecting grease and preventing flare-ups, the grease bottom tray helps reduce the risk of fires or dangerous situations when cooking with open flames or high heat.
The design and location of the grease bottom tray can vary depending on the specific grill model. Some may have a removable tray that slides out for easy cleaning, while others might have a built-in, non-removable tray that requires more effort to clean. For the more popular weber grills, when people replace the grease drip pan, they usually have trouble choosing the right one.
