Why Is My Traeger Pellet Grill Not Working?
April 03, 2023There could be several reasons why your Traeger Pellet Grill is not working. Traeger pellet grill uses a control panel to operate the pellet auger, hot rod ignitor and combustion fan . The control panel receives temperature information from inside the grill via the RTD sensor. Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can follow to identify and resolve the issue:
- Check the Power Supply: Make sure that the grill is properly plugged in and that the outlet is working. You can try plugging in another appliance to see if the outlet is providing power.
- Check the Pellet Hopper: Empty out all the pellets and vacuum out the hopper, auger and burn pot. Make sure they are not jammed. If there is a jam, try clearing it using a long tool like a broom handle.
- Check the Auger: Listen to tell if the auger is working and moving pellets. If not, the auger motor could have failed. The auger is responsible for feeding the pellets into the fire pot. Make sure that it is turning and not clogged. If it is clogged, try cleaning it out.
- Check the Fire Pot: Make sure that the Fire Pot is clean and free of debris. If it is dirty, try cleaning it out with a brush.
- Check the Igniter: If the fire fails to start at all, the hot rod ignitor could have failed and may need replacing. Alternatively, the induction fan may be faulty.
- Check the Temperature Probe: The temperature probe is responsible for reading the temperature inside the grill. Make sure that it is clean and properly inserted. If it is dirty, de-grease the RTD temperature sensor .
- Check the control panel: If you are having issues with your Traeger grill no longer achieving or maintaining the set temperature, the control panel may be faulty. you can use a infrared heat gun to test if the temperature readout on the control panel is accurate (aim directly at the RTD temperature sensor , where the digital control panel gets the temperature information from). If there is a large degrees difference between the readout on the heat gun and the temperature readout on the control panel, there is a problem.
