How to Replace the Burner Tubes on a Weber Spirit Grill?
April 06, 2022
It is an excellent idea to inspect the burner tubes on your Weber grill every spring before the first grilling session of the season. Making sure your burner tubes are in good condition will help you grill run better and is an exercise in grilling safety.
Many people do not keep their grills covered and they end up taking a lot of abuse over the winter. Water can get into the grill and start rusting out the burners as the grill sits idle. When your Weber spirit burners are out of work, please check our quality replacement set.
How to Inspect the Burners on Your Grill
Before you light the grill remove the cooking grate and flavorizer bars. Visually inspect each burner for obvious failures. If you see large holes in the burner tubes or if the tubes appear to be bent or sagging then they are shot and need to be replaced.
The first step is to make sure your burners are in fact beyond repair. Start by making sure the propane tank has enough fuel then look for leaks in the fuel hose by using a solution of water and dishwashing liquid. If you see bubbles in the solution, there is a leak in the line. In this case you will need to order some affordable replacement grill parts to fix the leak. Next, try lighting the burners to high for 10 minutes. Check the spider screens for any blocks that may prevent propane from reaching the burner itself.
You can also try resetting the excess flow safety device. To do this, turn all burners off and turn off the valve on the propane cylinder. Disconnect the regulator valve, turn all burners to high and wait one minute. Now, turn the burners off again and reconnect the regulator valve. Turn the valve on the tank back on and test the burners.
If these steps did not work you will need to replace the burners of your grill. Here shows how to do it.
Step 1
Shut off the gas to the grill, and turn all control knobs to the "Off/Locked" position. Wait for the Weber grill to cool if it has been in use.
Step 2
Raise the Weber's lid to removed the cooking grate and lava rocks or briquettes underneath. Lift the grate over the burner as well, and set aside these parts for reuse.
Step 3
Remove the nut on the underside of the Weber grill that holds the burner securely in position, using the adjustable wrench. If the nut does not twist easily, spray it with lubricant and wait five minutes, then use the wrench.
Step 4
Lift the burner from inside the grill at an angle, pulling the back edge upward and forward. This pulls the burner tubes underneath the Weber off the gas valves so the entire assembly can be removed from the lower half of the grill. Continue turning the burner at an angle toward you to pull the tubes out of the two holes in the bottom of the grill.
Step 5
Place the burner upside down on a flat surface so the L-shaped tubes are pointing upward.
Step 6
Twist the tube you wish to remove one-half turn counterclockwise where it attaches to the underside of the burner. This unlocks the tube for removal. Insert a new tube into the hole in the burner in the same orientation and rotate it clockwise to lock it onto the burner.
You will find it simple to replace the burners.
Happy grilling! :)
