6 Steps to Choose the Perfect Fire Glass Type for Your Fireplace and Fire Pit

1. Choose The Style

Fire glass comes in various shapes and styles, each with its unique advantages. Flat on both sides, Original Fire Glass is one of the most common types. Crushed Fire Glass, on the other hand, is an excellent choice for beginners. Fire Diamonds produce fuller flames and are suitable for a modern aesthetic. Fire Beads have a rounded, three-dimensional texture that allows for a larger fire. Fire Dots are the most recent addition and feature small, two-dimensional shapes that fit together tightly for a subtle flame. Finally, Fire Cubes are small square-shaped glass pieces that resemble ice cubes and create a stylish effect with their clean, straight lines.

2. Choose The Size

When choosing fire glass, you will need to decide on the type and size. The sizes refer to the thickness of the glass, not the length of the pieces.

If you prefer a fresh, two-dimensional look with a smaller, more casual flame, go for 1/4" and 3/8" fire glass. But if you want a larger flame with a more three-dimensional look, choose 1/2" and 3/4" fire glass.

3. Choose The Look

Fire glass and fire glass beads come in various finishes that offer different looks. To make it easier for you to choose, here's a brief overview of what each finish offers.

Reflective Fire Glass: This type of fire glass will reflect the light from your fire pit, creating a beautiful mirror-like effect. The mirror effect heightens the reflective characteristics of the fireglass causing a cozy glow and shimmer of the dancing flames.

Non-Reflective Fire Glass: Non-reflective fire glass will retain more of its true color while your fire pit is lit, instead of reflecting the light. This is ideal if you want to highlight the color of the glass itself.

4. Choose The Blend

Combining and blending different types of fire glass can be done in countless ways, but we do have a few favorite options that we'd like to suggest.

a. Mix reflective with non-reflective fire glass for a blend that shows off the color and lets firelight play on its surfaces.

b. Use 2-3 colors for a nice balance or choose from our pre-mixed blends.

c. Add multiple colors for a unique palette. Blend lava rocks or fire balls with fire glass for an exotic look.

5. Choose The Quantity

How much fire glass you need depends on the diameter of your fire pit and the depth of fill you would like. Usually 10 pound per 10’’ is what we suggest for just covering.
